Este disco de Depeche Mode es una fusiòn y una consecuencia de lo que podìa llegar a hacer el grupo luego de una obra maestra como lo fuè "Violator".
El analisìs de "Songs Of Faith And Devotion" es fino y delicado. Tanto que a pesar de separarse musicalmente de su precedente producciòn , en el fondo, no se separa tanto manteniendo la oscuridad oprimente que los caracteriza desde "Black Celebration" solo que en este caso es llevado a un extremo aùn màs arriesgado. El periodo grunge afecto a Depeche Mode y sobretodo a Dave Gaham que apenas apareciò el video de "I Feel You" se veìa a un tipo de pelo largo tatuado y con apariencia rocker ,que en cierta manera traicionaba aquel joven de pelo corto, afeitado y de buena familia europea que estabamos acostumbrados a ver.
La oscuridad que tiene este disco tambièn es parte de una cierta inclinaciòn hacìa el techno Indusrial que seguramente Alan Wilder y Martin Gore habìan cultivado en Europa mezclado con una atmòsfera medieval sufrida y oscura al mejor estilo "El Nombre de la Rosa" de Umberto Eco.
Nunca un àlbum sonò asì, canciones como "Mercy In You" e "In Your Room" son verdaderas obras de arte , canciones insuperables con un contenido que te lleva a otro mundo de un cachetazo.
"Walking In My Shoes" es como las nombradas anteriormente un himno.Un viaje a todo lo oculto que existe dentro de la mente humana. una postal de catedrales de Europa del siglo XV entre catacumbas y sintetizadores. Escucharla de noche y con la luz apagada es una experiencia que solo la mùsica puede brindar , para aquellos que la sienten. Aùn hoy me pone la piel de gallina , el texto ademàs es fantàstico. que màs se puede pedir ?????
Como toda obra de arte en su momento fuè incomprendida , no podiamos aceptar que Depeche Mode no hubiera optado por el camino seguro del èxito, realizando un Violator 2 ! : Hoy considero este uno de los puntos màs importantes de la discografìa de los de Basilidon.
